Has anything like this ever happened in one of your D & D games?

Consider, then, games with rising stakes.
Let’s look at traditional poker first. A gambling game, yes, and one where you can count on the wagers to rise as the game goes on. Why? Because as the first players lose out, the winners have that much more money to play with, and can make use of bigger bets as [...]
Ah those care free days of Convention Gaming. Such good memories of carnage and death. Unlike campigns there is continuity to maintain so it can and should become a rampant kill fest. Aslo MC Frontlot has a new album. Go buy it.
Smite and MetalJim had some very interesting points they brought up this week. I’d like to throw in my two cents as well….
I would like to start by saying that I agree with both of them. Each brings up valid points and each has a unique playing style (which I can attest to since I’ve [...]
In which MetalJim plums the hidden depths of the role-playing mind…
Perhaps this is why my services as a DM are not in high demand…
To me, nothing could be less interesting than a D&D character who, created at first level, is signed, sealed, and delivered a full career development path to 20th level or beyond, replete with carefully researched prestige classes (and no doubt, a back [...]
I love the D&D system but there are a few things about it that tweak me off. Like everyone else I am not fond of the hit point system but at least I understand its place in the action genre (see Die Hard.) What has been annoying me lately is the experience point system.
I’ve been going through some of my old boardgames lately, seeing what I want to keep and what gets donated to a worthy cause. I stumbled upon my original DUNGEON! Board Game (the 1980 version) and decided to write a bit about it here.
I originally got the D&D Basic Set for Christmas in 1980, but [...]
You find a wallet containing $50 in cash and a driver’s license. What do you do with it?
Just an old dog trying to learn a few new tricks.
We’ve all gone to the movies and enjoyed those bloodbath fight scenes in Conan the Barbarian, or more recently the decapitations and amputations in Braveheart or Rob Roy. People like seeing realistic combats, not the silly Star Trek mock combats, or G.I. Joe battles in which the bad guys happen to eject out of their [...]
Catchin’ up with the slackin’ off…
This is going to be lovely: a post on Spiderman and other comic-hero movies, with absolutely no links or swiped images. I mean, come on, you all know how to use Google, IMDB, and Wikipedia. The only thing we want for is interesting ideas, and that’s what d21 is really here to provide! Ready? OK, here [...]
Last UBCon I picked up Fantasy Flight Games’ Arkham Horror board game. After a week or so, and a couple of false starts I got a chance to play a full game of it. It was awesome.
The D&D game has recently gone through several revisions to the Core Rules, supplement material, and splatbooks. But are the supplements really worth the effort getting if you haven’t even used all the options provided in the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, or Monster Manual? Also, is D&D trying to go completely digital (i.e. paperless)?
In which MetalJim makes some highly educated guesses about the future of Dungeons and Dragons.
